Kids volunteer to work in the Clinch River Raptor Center. These photos were taken about 4 years ago. Cages are cleaned of droppings on the floor, walls are sprayed down with disinfectant when needed, feeding areas are cleaned and disinfected, tossed up pellets from hawks and owls are collected...that is most of it. Each bird is given a specified weight of food and how much eaten is recorded. One volunteer weighs out a determined amount of mice which depends on the needs of the individual raptor.
Also, any feathers are collected. Good ones are saved and may be used for imping (feather replacement).
